How to protect children's teeth amid flouride bans

Fluoride has long been a key player in preventing cavities in children, but recent bans in states including Utah and Florida have raised alarms among dental experts. Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel and replenishes minerals lost to acids, making it crucial for oral health. Major organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, advocate for fluoridated water as a cost-effective preventive measure. With one-third of Americans already lacking access to fluoridated water, dentists report increased tooth decay in these communities. But even without fluoride in water, children can still get protection from fluoride through other sources. These include fluoride toothpaste, mouth rinses and fluoride varnish applied by a dentist every six months.
